Square format. Along the horizon sits a very dark low wide turquoise mountain, with a peak left of centre. In front of it are low dark blue hills with two rounded peaks, and in front of it an even darker, almost black, sliver of land before there is an even narrower sliver of water rendered in pale teal. In front of that is a band of land coloured ochre with hints of alizarin and on the right 3 piles, in magenta, possibly of turf. In front of that is the bottom half of the painting, all water in various shades of turquoise, all paler than the mountain across the top. Graphical shapes in the water suggest reflections and rocks with some horizontal markings, both soft and hard edged, suggesting reeds. Signed bottom left: Liam Daly

Update: SOLD (Prints are available)

This is the painting that started those paintings you don’t like. Or perhaps you love them. My favourite thing to do on Christmas Day is paint, because it’s a day when anything is possible – and that transmits itself into my painting. It means that the Christmas Day painting time I do is very special, regardless of what comes out. But the Christmas before last, just days after my annual sale in 2022, I began this little treasure. I didn’t finish it for ages, but it opened the door for so many other paintings.

Connemara Bog you say? It’s called that because I had two views in mind when painting it, both in South Connemara. One is Roundstone Bog, and the other is the from over by the entrance to the Rosmuc peninsula as you look northwest across those lakes to the Twelve Bens. I was ecstatic when I painted this – the beginning of it, that is. So I drank wine, it being Christmas and all. Didn’t manage to finish it for another year but life had changed.

UPDATE: This painting is now SOLD.

PRINTS
