Landscape format. Under a painterly yellow sky stands the remains of a stone cottage, roofless with the green foliage of a tree rising up for the far end almost merging into the dark green foliage of a couple of trees behind it. The stones are of varying sizes and different greys, cool ones and warm ones. The foreground is a textured brushed boggy mixture of shades of orange with some green and a couple of dark green and wine patches. A handful of grey stones are littered around the rough patch of land. Behind and a little below the cottage is a pale sliver of a body of water, and behind it a green-brown hill while along the horizon in the distance behind everything is a long low pale blue mountain. New Painting #16 “Bog Ruin”

“Bog Ruin”

Update: SOLD
€185 (+ €13 Registered post to Ireland; €15-€25 to rest of world)

A lot of people like the ruins of cottages and I’m one of them. A lot of other people are saddened when they see them, and I’m one of them too. ButI also love stones and bogs so I was always going to paint this. You’ve probably seen a million like it if you’ve traveled around Ireland much, especially under a yellow sky. This particular ruin I came across after a long wonderful day cycling across Roundstone Bog on my way to Clifden. It was on the edge of the bog and I couldn’t but wonder about its history.

UPDATE: This painting is now SOLD.
If you’d like to buy this painting of a bog ruin, perhaps to help you wonder about its history, please either message me privately by any method or publicly post a comment below the painting on my website or on Facebook, and if you’re before anybody else (I sometimes have to check timestamps in different places) I’ll mark it as sold for you then privately make arrangements with you for payment (if you’re known to me probably bank transfer or cash, and if not then by another secure method) and for delivery. Notifications from all avenues can get a bit clunky with a lot happening at the same time, so it may take more minutes than I’d like to get to your message – but I will.
