Landscape format. Under a very pale aqua sky we are looking up a wide street of a small town which slopes up as it recedes. Buildings are two and three storeys. with cars parked on both sides of the street perpendicular to the footpaths. Street surface is a dark green mixed with blue and some purple. In the foreground are loosely painted road markings of 'yellow boxes' while beyond that the road has a dividing dashed white line and at both edges dashed yellow lines. Small trees are along left side. Footpaths are pale greeny yellow. The corner building on the left is red brick upper storey and grey lower where it has a door right on the corner. Nearest building on right is a pale cold green with a double gable front and green details around windows and elsewhere. At the top of the street is a statue in front of a cream building facing down.

As I look at this painting here beside me – it’s actually leaning against the television screen (we don’t turn it on much) – it seems much more vibrant in reality than this photo of it I’m sharing with you. I tried very hard to get it to match – but then the kettle boiled. As I often say, as a general rule the paintings are nicer in reality than their photos online. I know I would say that, wouldn’t I, but many people have told me this – so I’ll keep saying it.

Anyway, I’ve been to Tullow a few times, but of course the time that this painting is based on is the time I got to Tullow by bicycle. Carlow has great towns. I like a sense of space in a town, so I like towns that embrace rivers and I like towns that have squares. Look at all this space, I’m heard to say. You get good looks at the buildings when you have open space. And Tullow has a slope too which, since I was cycling down it, I was a big fan of. And then looking back I had this nice view. Yep, painting you, I said. My bicycle yawned. Eventually when I left Tullow that day I cycled off on that street to the left there – which itself was a very pleasant experience.

If you’d like to buy this painting message me and I will then make arrangements with you for payment (Likely by bank transfer or cash) and delivery.
