Landscape format. In field of long yellow grass a large outbuilding with rusted corrugated roof occupies left half of painting. Posts holding a wire fence run diagonally through foreground. Tall yellow-flowered weeds stand out against very dark shadow side of outbuilding while gable end with small windows is in sun. Behind is smaller grey outbuilding and green foliage of tree-top. At end of field is hedgerow of dark green. Beyond it pale turquoise and purple hills in front of pale blue mountains, the most distant one coming to a sharp peak. Sky is light blue with large white soft clouds. Signed bottom right: Liam Daly

Mayo Shed

Painting: “Mayo Shed”

Who doesn’t like a good outbuilding? Probably lots of people, to be honest, but I’m not one of them. This particular gem is near Louisbourg so yep, that’s the back of Croagh Patrick you’re looking at there, in its conical iconicness. Tell me though, how do you decide where the front of a mountain is? If you’re not familiar with Mayo, or Luxembourg in particular, you should probably know that the sun doesn’t shine all of the time – but I did this painting based on a magnificent day when I cycled around in gorgeous weather.
