Years I’ve been working on this. Years.
I get to Ballina most years so it’s countless times I’ve been there. First went in the mid 1990s when I was told the taxi driver was called PJ and he’d look after me when I came out of the train station. He did. And he told me I wouldn’t mind if he also picked up some woman and took her to hospital, and he was right.
Apart from pubs and stag weekends, I also often found myself wondering around Ballina when nobody else seemed to be around. Usually because I had time before walking out to the bus station or the train station, or just to see if there was someone I knew around. I sketched the junction years ago with a view to making this painting, and slowly over the years I’d visit the spot again and make mental notes for when I got home to look at my canvas and resume painting again. And here it is.
If you’d like to buy this painting please shout that you would before anyone else does, and when I see it (Facebook is being very slow at showing me notifications and stuff tonight) I’ll then contact you to make arrangements – payment by bank transfer or cash probably. If you wouldn’t like to buy you know you can still help me by doing a whole load of things but mostly by sharing it – especially if you happen to know people who are mad about Mayo – you know the way people are mad about Mayo – or just Ballina particularly.
