I like North Earl Street. I’ve previously painted the James Joyce Statue as it looked out from North Earl St over O’Connell Street to the G.P.O. but in this painting I’ve celebrated the street itself instead. And a little thing called the Spire. I love shapes. Especially shapes with right angles. So buildings and whole streets are positively like a fairground to me. If you like your shops you’ll recognise Dunnes Stores. And if you like your tea you’ll like the old Kylemore. This painting was in progress for two years and it reminds me – as the song says – that Dublin keeps on changing.
